This is a re-edited version from what Brenda sent out on Sunday, April 11:
LARGE ATTENDANCE BY MEMBERS AT APRIL ATV CLUB MEETING
Our April 7, 2010 meeting was held at 7pm at Oscars Restaurant in Grangeville. The attendance was quite healthy with close to 30 members and 2 Guest Speakers: Mark from Parks and Recreation and Dave from USFS.
MOTORIZED VEHICLE VANDALISM ON KIRKWOOD TRAIL
Discussion about the Kirkwood and Big Canyon trails pertained to cleanup and also problems where irresponsible ATV and Motorcycle riders cut through and went off the trail, which gouged up the ground. It had been healed up over the past few years after trail riders had chopped it up in the past. There are signs at the top of the trail that says “Stay on the trail” but those who are violating the trails are the offenders who continue to undermine everyones efforts to keep trails open.
Idaho Pathfinders will join with the Lewiston ATV club to place ads in the Lewiston Tribune and MoneySavr with photos of the damage in an effort to bring about community awareness about trail vandalism. Please report any acts of trail vandalism to authorities if you witness people who are acting irresponsibly.
EAGLE CREEK RIDE UPDATE
If you hadn’t already heard, we’re past the deadline for our IPA Member Ride to Eagle Creek on April 25th. Over 180 IPA Members – new and existing – will be attending the ride. Thats a big group, but its a great ride and lots of outstanding people to enjoy.
The raffle drawing for the “2010 Polaris 550″ donated by Bud’s Saw Shop in Cottonwood, and Idaho Pathfinders will be held at the catered steak feed at the end of the trail ride. Scott and Judy Scribner are catering the meal.
We still have raffle tickets available. Send us an email if you’d like to arrange to purchase a chance to win this great machine. They’re $5.00 each or $45.00 per book of 10. Or go to Norco, Partsway, Les Schwab, Primeland, Buts Saw Shop, Tacketts and Final Touch in Grangeville where raffle tickets are being sold.
GUEST SPEAKERS
Mark from Idaho Parks and Recreation passed out information on Fish and Game as it relates to the Travel Plan. Parks and Rec is also offering to “train the trainers” for ATV Courses that can be held locally by community volunteers to provide ATV trail safety classes for members and non-members who are interested in ATV trail riding. Mark also mentioned an Ambassador program promoted by Idaho Parks and Recreation to help trail riders become educated on monitoring trail conditions and also reporting trail damage and vandalism. Anyone who is interested in the Ambassador program can let us know here for more info.
Dave from U.S.F.S. was present and the subject of the Sour Dough decommissioning is still being discussed, but nothing has really been finalized yet. Still nothing to report on the travel plan.
CLUB BBQ GRILL
The Idaho Pathfinders are going to have their own barbecue grill, being custom made for pulling to trail sites so that members doing have to haul their grills in the truck anymore, which makes it tough to also load the ATV with a grill in the pickup bed. More on the grill will be released soon. Progress is being made.
Jordan Valley ATV Ride is scheduled May 22nd and 23rd. ATV, UTV and Motorcycles are all welcome.
DONATION TO 4-H PROGRAM
Idaho County 4H is hosting a program on ATV trail riding and safety so that young riders can learn to be responsible ATVers. The club voted to donate $500 for the local 4-H program.
