2015 February’s Newsletter

Happy Valentines day everyone!! The weather sure has been nice on the weekend. I see a lot of OHV users on the road. There should be some places opening up. May be a little muddy and ruts being made that isn’t good. But on the other hand at my house Yard work is getting done early. YA

Meeting was brought to order February 4th, 2015 at Hoot’s Café. 14 members around the table.

1. Hamburger ride to Pittsburg Landing has been moved to March 15th. We will be cooking between 12-2pm @ the camp ground by the river. Cost is $5.00 per person. We are asking all members to bring a dish to share. (White Bird will be having their St. Paddy’s day Sausage feed the morning of at the IOOF hall. They are serving from 7:30-12:30.) Would the members like a game to play or just the 50/50 raffle? Let me know your thoughts. Please make sure all machines are licensed and ready to go for 2015. Also All kids under 18 must wear an OHV helmet.

2. Steak BBQ ride will be down Eagle Creek May 17th. Please RSVP before May 1st. The unloading and eating place we believe will be ???( by the next meeting We will have the place. Dean and I will take a drive). We will be keeping everyone informed on this as we go.

3. Up date on the Clearwater Lawsuit: It has NOT been settled. There is 3 lawsuits being proposed. And one of the three is in front of the judge at this time. In the settlement agreement the Forest Service proposed to open recommended wilderness areas to winter motorized use until we could re-issue the Decision. The judge has not ruled on the proposed settlement agreement.

4. Winter Travel: At this time we are aware of some concerns going on with winter travel. We will be finding out more information for next meeting.

5. The first aid class will happen March or April. Karla E. we hope will be giving it to. She is very busy at this time doing classes for the hospital. But as soon as she is available she will get us worked in.

6. Dean and Brenda had a meeting with Jeremy Harris to talk about work schedule and some of the concerns on our trails. (January 30th, 2015) These are some of the things we talked about

A. Reroute out of the creek bottom were we cross the 221 road on the Centennial trail. Wayne Wright, Steve D. and Don Eckford walked it several years ago. It was marked to do. But has been in hold up for a few years. Jeremy will be looking into it for work for us.

B. Peter Ready trail (Skyline) to the corrals at Adams. Bob, Dean, Don and Jeremy will be looking into how we can work it to stay off the 221 road. Bob and Don know a way. Now we need to present it again to the forest service. And have them walk it with us this time.

c. 313 trail that we worked on last year, will need some more drainage work and rocking on the side of Adams. They finished up the side of Gospel road. Now we just need to finish up on the other. When the snow clears we will be taking Jeremy up to show and make suggestions.

D. 303 trail or loop that has been started. We are in hold up on it because of the creek crossing. They don’t know what will be done there. A bridge maybe or forge ring with work on the landing on the other sides. There will need to be lots of switch backs and trail work needed when this one goes through.

E. We also talked about several heavy brushing spots on the trails for ATV and Motorcycles. He is thinking about bring in the Montana crew for that.
7. Logging on the Centennial trail. There was some heavy logging across part of the Centennial trail. Don will be looking into more about it once the snow clears. We believe that the trail will need magor repairs. If so we will be talking to Jeremy about who is going to fix it.

8. Thank you to the small crew that went into Big Canyon on January 26th. They worked from the first cabin back. We will be taking in another crew to work from the first cabin out to the second
cabin soon. If you would like to join or be on the call list give us a hauler 839-2303.

If you are needing OHV classes for you or little one. We will be giving those again in either Grangeville, Cottonwood, or White Bird. Call 839-2303 for more information.
