Idaho State ATV Association Letter to Organizations and House Holds

Dear ATV and UTV Enthusiasts and Organized Clubs:
Thank you for your past support of the Idaho State ATV Association (“ISATVA”). The ISATVA is an Idaho
statewide organization of over twenty local riding clubs comprising over 2,000 members. ISATVA
represents ATV, UTV and OHV users throughout Idaho by working to maintain open access to public
lands and by encouraging safe and responsible riding. Our members devote thousands of hours per year
toward maintenance and improvement of trails, trailheads and other motorized use areas.
Over the years ISATVA has made tremendous accomplishments for the benefit of all motorized
recreation users. ISATVA actively monitors and participates in public lands policy-making, forest and
range planning, and travel planning. Where necessary, ISATVA appeals administrative decisions
resulting in the loss of motorized opportunity, and in some circumstances even challenges such
decisions in court. ISATVA also actively advocates for the interests of motorized recreation in the Idaho
State Legislature. ISATVA has sponsored legislation ensuring youth operators can continue to
participate in motorized recreation on public lands. ISATVA has further protected the importance and
simplicity of the OHV payto-play system by ensuring responsible management and administration of
that system by Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation. Through our club members, ISATVA devotes
significant time to serving our local communities, providing ride opportunities, maintaining trails, and
providing a strong social network among motorized recreation enthusiasts. The foregoing is but a brief
sketch of our activities. I invite you to visit the ISATVA website at www.idahostateatv.org
to learn even
more about our organization, particularly our statement of policies and positions.
ISATVA cannot survive without your strong and steadfast support. Provided herewith is a Membership
Application. If you are not a current member, we urge you to become one. If you are an existing
member, now is the time to renew your membership. Year 2017 looks to be an eventful and exciting
year. We look forward to building even stronger relationships with our partners BlueRibbon Coalition,
Idaho Recreation Council, and Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation. We also expect to have a fun
filled annual meeting hosted by the Mountain Home ATV Club in the Pine/Featherville area during
August 17-20, 2017. You will not want to miss this seventh annual gathering of OHV enthusiasts from
throughout our great State and beyond

Importantly, this year ISATVA has embarked on an information gathering campaign to gain a treasure
trove of information to assist and guide us, and the State of Idaho, in setting OHV management policies
for the coming years. To that end, late last month we initiated a public survey process to learn what you
the users – want and desire. We mailed 81,730 postcards throughout the state – one to every
household with a registered OHV.
If you have not participated in the survey as of yet, we encourage you to do so. Initial responses have
been strong and we look forward to sharing the findings with you in March. We are sure these findings
will generate robust and lively discussion for our direction in the coming years.
This pubic information gathering process comes at significant expense. We need your help now, more
than ever, to financially support our great organization. Please renew your club membership as soon as
possible. Additionally, please encourage individuals to become associate members of ISATVA to
financially support our cause. Many clubs have, in the past, provided an additional donation above and
beyond their membership dues. We appreciate that greatly and call on all our club members to do
provide an additional contribution this year because of the significant expense we are incurring on the
public survey.
Thank you for your tireless advocacy and support of the OHV sport.
Working to keep the roads and trails open for all,
David P. Claiborne, President
