We had a wonderful day on Sunday the last day of Feb 2010 as ATV recreationalists from Lewiston, Winchester, Cottonwood, Grangeville, White Bird, Pollack and McCall gathered at the White Bird old mill site on Deer Creek Road for an easy going ATV Club Ride to Pittsburg Landing in Hells Canyon on the Snake River.
This ride was open to the public and there were alot of smiles and happy faces as folks departed in small groups from the Salmon Riverside location around 8:30am to 9 and began meandering up Deer Creek Road toward our destination on the Snake River.
The weather really cooperated with us as the morning clouds parted to mostly sunny skies and mild temps that felt warm by early afternoon. Don Eckford, Dean Heckman and Dick Brust were already at the pavilion getting burgers and hotdogs cooking, keeping the coals stoked for arrival of many hungry riders. Members brought tons of great side dishes including huckleberry muffins, creamy fruit salads, potatoe and rice salads, chips, brownies, desserts, fruit and more! What is enjoyed most of all is getting away from the regular routines of the week and enjoying the fresh outdoor air combined with the most wonderful comaraderie amongst the participants who get to catch up on family news and share stories and antecdotes with one and other, AND meet new ATV riders some of whom become new IPA Members. There is always plenty of laughter and plain good old fashioned fun to be had!
The totals for the day as reported by Brenda Heckman:
- We had 72 riders for BBQ paid
- Sold 6 hats at $10.00 a hat (BBQ special)
- 50/50 tickets were $73.00 for the club and $73.00 for Roger from Lewiston.
After getting lunch, some of the riders went on to Big Canyon for a trail ride that offers additional views of the tremendous Hells Canyon landscape and the Snake River. There were a few I heard also went to look at the petroglyphs to the south of the main road into Pittsburg Landing for a bit of history.
Others hung around the pavillion to trade looks at each others latest ATV or UTV vehicles, accessories and features!
Thank you again to Dean, Don, Dick, Bob,on the BBQer’s Carol, Donna, Susie and lady’s for keeping the table set up or cleaned up. Thank you to Todd for taking over at the sign in, and thanks goes to all those who brought food to share.
We’ll be posting photos in our photo galleries real soon.
